History of Grama Panchayat
The Tholur region was initially under the rule of the Thalappilly Royal Dynasty and later came under the administration of the Punnathur branch. Temples, ponds, and other remnants of the old feudal administration still remain as historical symbols of the region. During Tipu Sultan’s invasion, the Punnathur Fort was destroyed, but traditional heritage centers such as the Shekhavankavu Temple continued to exist. It is also believed that the famous Thiruvambady Temple had an early historical connection with this region. The Tholur Vishnu Temple, Ponnar Shiva Temple, and Pishariyekkal Temple were important temples associated with the Azhvanchery Brahmin community.
